Peer Review Process
Manuscripts submitted to Mataram Journal of International Law (MaJIL) undergo a rigorous editorial and peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic contribution of each publication. MAJIL applies a double-blind peer review system, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to maintain objectivity and fairness.
- Authors submit their manuscripts through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) available on the MAJIL website, along with all required metadata and supporting documents.
- The Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor conducts an initial evaluation based on:
- Relevance to the journal’s focus and scope
- Originality and academic quality
- Compliance with author guidelines
- Manuscripts that do not meet the criteria will be desk rejected without proceeding to the next stage.
- Manuscripts that pass the initial screening undergo a plagiarism check using similarity detection software (e.g., Turnitin), with the following thresholds:
- < 15% → Proceed to review
- 15–30% → Revision required before review
- 30% → Rejected
- The Handling Editor assigns the manuscript to at least two reviewers based on their expertise and specialization.
- The manuscript is reviewed using a double-blind peer review process, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous.
- The review process is conducted within approximately 2–4 weeks, during which reviewers evaluate:
- Originality and novelty
- Methodological soundness
- Clarity of analysis
- Contribution to legal scholarship
- Reviewers provide recommendations as follows:
- Accept (without revision)
- Revisions Required
- Decline
- The Handling Editor summarizes the reviewers’ comments and submits them to the Editor-in-Chief for the final decision.
- The Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:
-
- Accept
- Revisions Required
- Reject
- Authors are given 1–2 weeks to revise their manuscript based on reviewers’ comments.
- Revised manuscripts may be sent back to reviewers for re-evaluation.
- Accepted manuscripts proceed to the copyediting stage, which is completed within 1 week.
- The manuscript is then formatted in the layout editing stage (PDF/HTML) within 1 week.
- Authors are given 3 days to review and proofread the final version of the manuscript.
- The final manuscript is published online through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) and included in the journal issue.
