Abstract

Water management is crucial in spinach cultivation. One effective watering method for spinach is drip irrigation. A drip irrigation system delivers water in small volumes to maintain soil moisture, ensuring plant water requirements are met. This study aimed to determine the growth response of spinach plants and identify the efficiency of using an automated drip irrigation system. The study was conducted using an experimental method in polybags. Employing a drip irrigation automation system to regulate the amount of water according to predetermined settings. Observed parameters included drip uniformity, plant response level, temperature and humidity of the growing medium, and relay performance. The study’s results showed that this system functions on the effectiveness of plant growth, in cocopeat media showed an average plant height of 11.7 cm, and an average number of leaves of 9 pieces, in fertile soil media showed an average plant height of 30.32 cm, and an average number of leaves of 58 pieces, in ordinary soil media showed an average plant height of 31.25 cm, and an average number of leaves of 62 pieces, in controlling the drip irrigation system for optimal water needs determined in the cocopeat media treatment the upper limit value was set at >378% and the lower limit at <312%, in fertile soil media the upper limit value was set at >38% and the lower limit at >38%, in ordinary soil media the upper limit value was set at >29% and the lower limit at <22%. Continuous monitoring of humidity with these setting limits helps maintain soil conditions in a balanced state. Thus, this system is effective in regulating water use for optimal plant growth.
