Abstract

Abstract: Worm Disease is one of the main health problems throughout the world, including Indonesia. Thricuris trichiura (whipworm) is a type of worm that can cause infection in which it is part of the Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) group. This service activity aims to increase elementary school students’ understanding of the dangers of whipworm infection and how to prevent it. The method of this service activity is carried out by providing counseling through flipcharts, flyers and hygiene training on how to wash hands properly. This activity was attended by 15 kids from 4th grade elementary school students. The results of this service found that most students were still unknowledgeable about whipworm infection and that students' personal hygiene was still deficient. This was assessed from the fact that several students often played with dirt, had long fingernails with dirt underneath, sucked their fingers and did not know how to wash their hands properly. After the counseling was carried out, an increase of knowledge was assessed from the ability and activeness of students in answering questions related to the counseling of the material presented, and students were also able to perform how to wash their hands properly and correctly.   Keywords: Helminthiasis, Thricuris trichiura, Hand hygine , Elementary Students
