Abstract

This community service activity was conducted to address farmers’ dependency on chemical fertilizers and the underutilization of agricultural waste in Kalirejo Village, Negeri Katon District. The excessive use of chemical fertilizers has led to soil degradation and higher production costs. Therefore, innovation in processing agricultural waste into organic fertilizer using decomposer technology was introduced. The objective of this program was to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in producing compost fertilizer with decomposers to accelerate and improve the efficiency of the composting process. The methods included lectures, group discussions, hands-on demonstrations, and evaluation through pretest and post-test questionnaires to assess knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant improvement in farmers’ understanding and skills, with average scores increasing from 55.2 (pretest) to 85,45 (post-test), an improvement of 30.8 points (55.8%). The composting period was reduced from three months to one month, and farmers were able to produce high-quality organic fertilizer independently, reducing production costs and dependence on chemical fertilizers. This activity demonstrated that decomposer technology transfer effectively promotes farmers’ self-reliance and sustainable agricultural practices.
