Abstract

Herbal cosmetics are products or skin care formulations that contain active chemical ingredients in the form of extracts that were derived from nature, such as plants, leaves, roots, fruits, and flowers, which have beneficial properties for skin health. Choosing safe herbal cosmetic products for the skin is one of the challenges today. Although the access to cosmetics is very easy, there are still many cosmetics in the market that do not have the approval of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) and contain harmful substances that can have adverse effects on the skin when applied. Community engagement activities in the form of educating the safe use of herbal cosmetics for the PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village are conducted to enhance the knowledge of PKK cadres regarding safe herbal cosmetics that are legal and have received approval from BPOM. In this educational activity, there is an increase in knowledge before and after the material presentation (p-value < 0.005). Through this engagement activity, it can be concluded that educating the safe use of herbal cosmetics for PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village can be implemented for the selection and use of herbal or natural ingredients as safe cosmetics among the public.
