Diabetes melitus merupakan penyakit metabolik kronik ditandai dengan kadar glukosa darah meningkat yang disebabkan oleh penurunan atau defisiensi insulin. Penyakit ini merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan global yang menjadi perhatian dunia. Berbagai komplikasi serius yang disebabkan oleh diabetes termasuk penyakit pada jantung, mata, ginjal, pembuluh darah dan saraf. Gangguan peningkatan kadar gula darah pada diabetes melitus tipe 1 disebabkan kerusakan sel beta pankreas sehingga hormon insulin tidak dapat diproduksi. Salah satu pengembangan terapi yang dapat digunakan adalah terapi berbasis Mesenchymal Stem Cell secara autologous. Meskipun terdapat kelemahan pada terapi pengembangan ini, kelebihan yang didapatkan terbukti efektif dalam mengurangi bahkan tidak memerlukan insulin pada pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 1Downloads
