Kolesistitis akut atau peradangan akut pada kandung empedu, umumnya disebabkan oleh obstruksi batu empedu. Dua komplikasi utama yang mungkin terjadi adalah empiema dan hidrops kandung empedu. Empiema kandung empedu didefinisikan sebagai akumulasi pus di kandung empedu, yang terjadi akibat infeksi bakteri berlanjut.. Di sisi lain, hidrops kandung empedu adalah kondisi di mana cairan serosa menumpuk di kandung empedu, biasanya akibat obstruksi kronis. Artikel ini memberikan gambaran umum tentang kedua kondisi tersebut, termasuk etiologi, manifestasi klinis, patofisiologi, diagnosis, dan penanganannya. Penekanan diberikan pada pentingnya diagnosis dini dan tatalaksana yang tepat guna meminimalkan morbiditas dan mortalitas.
