Diabetes melitus tipe 2 merupakan gangguan metabolik kronik yang ditandai dengan resistensi insulin dan hiperglikemia yang mendasari terjadinya salah satu komplikasinya, yaitu gangguan kognitif. Gangguan kognitif terkait diabetes melitus tipe 2 umumnya ditandai dengan penurunan fungsi pada satu atau lebih domain kognitif. Penurunan fungsi kognitif pada penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 dapat diperlambat progresivitasnya melalui kontrol kadar glukosa darah dengan baik. HbA1c adalah kandidat biomarker yang tepat untuk memprediksi progresivitas gangguan kognitif terkait diabetes melitus tipe 2. Hal ini didasari oleh beberapa karakteristik yang dimiliki oleh HbA1c, antara lain indeks paparan glukosa yang bagus dan dapat menilai komplikasi jangka panjang, memiliki variabilitas biologis harian yang rendah, relatif tidak terpengaruh oleh kondisi stress, dan tidak dipengaruhi oleh variasi akibat pembebanan jumlah glukosa.Downloads
