Abstrak

Traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) merupakan cedera saraf optik akibat trauma kepala dan wajah baik secara  langsung dan tidak langsung. Patogenesis TON belum sepenuhnya dijelaskan, dan pengelolaan TON masih bersifat kontroversial. Artikel ini akan meninjau literatur terbaru tentang TON dan membahas cara mengelola TON direk dan indirek. Berbagai studi menunjukkan bahwa observasi, terapi steroid, tindakan bedah, atau kombinasi  adalah landasan manajemen saat ini, tetapi bukti signifikan secara statistik yang mendukung pendekatan tertentu untuk TON masih belum diketahui sepenuhnya. Namun demikian, kemungkinan strategi manajemen baru akan muncul karena lebih banyak dipahami tentang jalur dariberbagai mekanisme cedera sel yang berperan di TON. Penelitian lebih lanjut sangat dibutuhkan untuk pemahaman lebih lanjut TON di masa depan.
