Stroke merupakan penyakit penyebab kematian terbanyak kedua di dunia dan peringkat ketiga terbanyak sebagai penyebab kecacatan. Stroke tidak hanya berdampak pada bidang kesehatan, tetapi dapat mempengaruhi bidang sosial, fisik, dan psikologis karena penurunan kualitas hidup penderita dan bidang ekonomi karena memerlukan biaya yang besar dalam perawatannya. Hingga saat ini penanganan stroke masih terpusat dalam pengobatan dan rehabilitasi, diperlukan upaya promotif dan preventif dalam penanganan stroke. Beberapa studi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara mikrobiota usus dan sistem saraf yang disebut Gut-Brain Connection atau Gut-Brain Axis (GBA). Mikrobiota usus memiliki peranan penting dalam GBA. Menjaga keseimbangan mikrobiota usus merupakan salah satu cara dalam mencegah terjadinya stroke, melalui komunikasi dua arah baik secara neuronal atau non-neuronal yang terjadi antara otak dan usus.Downloads
