Abstract

Goat kids represent the early growth phase that determines the success of breeding programs and the productivity of adult goats. This community service activity aimed to evaluate the management of Etawa Crossbred (PE) goat kids, identify technical constraints, and formulate improvement recommendations for farmers at the Kerta Bangkit Farmer Livestock Group, Genggelang Village, North Lombok Regency. The activity was conducted over 45 days using a participatory approach that included field observations, direct involvement in farm activities, body weight measurements, feed intake recording, health monitoring, discussions, and the formulation of recommendations. The results showed that the group raised 170 PE goats under a raised-floor housing system. The observed goat kids showed relatively good growth, with an average daily gain of 75 g/head/day, while lactating does had an average daily gain of 44 g/head/day. The average fresh feed intake was 4.39 kg/head/day. The main constraints included suboptimal postnatal kid handling, uneven colostrum intake, irregular vaccination, inconsistent provision of drinking water and minerals, and inadequate pen sanitation. The recommended improvements include immediate postnatal care for goat kids, ensuring adequate colostrum intake, recording growth performance, providing clean water and minerals, improving sanitation, and coordinating vaccination programs with animal health officers. This activity strengthened farmers’ understanding and improved the adoption of healthy, productive, and sustainable management practices for PE goat kids.
